Beautiful and dynamic Lisbon

The right bank of the Tagus estuary is home to the impressive capital of Portugal, Lisbon. Nostalgic and captivating, it contains all the spirit of the fado, a song of culture and emotion.

A flight to Lisbon will lead you straight to Rossio Square, where the Lisbon culture will begin to take hold. Next, take the Elevador de Santa Justa to admire the beauty from up high. You can also climb aboard tram number 28 to get to Castelo de São Jorge, for an uninterrupted view and stroll in the picturesque back alleys of the popular Alfama Quarter. Descend a bit to Praça de Comérico, made entirely pedestrian and considered as one of the most beautiful in Europe with its arcaded galleries. Dash to Belém Tower and admire this fortress built at the start of the 14th century. Shaken by the violence of the earthquake that ravaged Lisbon in 1755, it is miraculously still standing and symbolises all the energy of this city. The magnificent Jerónimos Monastery is thankfully resistant and it too has been spared by the tremors and is absolutely worth the detour. You're in the right place to savour the delicious canela pastéis of the Pastéis de Belém.

Your travel guide of Lisbon will indicate the most beautiful museums of Portugal. You can't miss the prodigious Calouste-Gulbenkian collection of art. Nestled right in the heart of the Palhavã Park, it retraces notably the history of Islamic art and of azulejos. Tremble at the sight of sharks and rays by visiting the Oceanarium at the Park of Nations or passing over the Tagus in a cable car, a sensational experience with a superb view over Vasco de Gama Bridge. It's by funicular railway that you rejoin Bairro Alto, the popular quarter that offers a plethora of restaurants.
